Classic Gingerbread

Fall baking is the best - and it's right up there with sweater knitting on the favorites list. I pulled out a trusty cookbook (Big Book of Easy Suppers by Maryana Vollstedt) to see what jumped out for a quick bake the other Sunday and here it is. One bowl and the butter didn't need to be at room temp! (I generally cut sugar by about 1/4 to 1/3 in all recipes and did so here with good results, keeping the molasses amount the same. I also was closer to 1.5 teaspoon on both cinnamon and ginger.) Oven 325 F...

On the Rocks 2.0

We're on the subscription box bandwagon for the second year in a row! After trying it out for 2021 with our half year subscription we have a couple of modifications:  instead of 3 boxes over 6 months we're going for a full year subscription with a box for you each quarter (so 4 boxes over 12 months). And our box choices are a little different than last year - choose your favorite color or cocktail and each box receives the same small project but different yarns based on the chosen cocktail color/mood. Love all color? Choose a full flight and...

Big Beautiful Yarn

We obviously have a lot of love for yarn; we chose to open a yarn shop because of it! But we haven't kept all of the yarns we've brought into the shop over the years, even though we would if we could (ha!) There's one yarn that we saw at our very first yarn market that has stayed with us ever since, and that's Merino No. 5 from Loopy Mango. My Summer of Sweaters by Ashley

I didn’t set out to go on a sweater knitting run, but I couldn’t stop once I got started! They can be called tees or sweaters…either way, I wanted short-sleeved, summery knits in my wardrobe. The cotton, linen, and wool blends in stock at Yarn Bar were the perfect inspiration. It’s amazing how many projects pop into your mind while you are tagging and displaying a new yarn!   I started with Yume by Isabell Kraemer. I am always drawn to Isabell’s patterns, and this one was just simple enough for me to choose a marled effect that I absolutely...

Sock Swap Report

Just as mornings are beginning to feel downright chilly, some lucky knitters got new socks! Thanks so much to all who participated. We all agree that socks are 100% wonderful to work on because they are a small and very portable project. It was pretty fun to see the good variety of patterns knit up and also great to see how different yarns look when they're all knit up. Of course, hanging out with knitters to mutually admire our handiwork is the best part. We look forward to next summer's swap!!!  In the meantime enjoy the pics and knit on!...
